Izborsk was first mentioned in 862 as a centre of the Krivichi people and where Ryurik's brother Truvor settled. Most of Izborsk's sights are associated with ancient history such as the Izborsk Fortress and Truvor's Gorodische, where Truvor is said to have been buried. The best way to get to Izborsk is via Pskov and it can easily be combined with a visit to Pechory.
