Cheboksary-1 Railway Station (Чебоксары-1) is located about 3.8km from the city centre at the end of the one of the city’s main streets: Prospekt Lenina (Проспект Ленина). Buses 2, 7, 15 and 23, minibuses 35, 36, 41, 50 and 53 and trolleybuses 1, 4 and 12 all head to the railway station.

Cheboksary is the final destination of the Kanash-Cheboksary railway line which explains why the city is only connected by railway with Moscow and cities on the way from Moscow to Cheboksary although a wagon is also connected onto trains to connect Cheboksary with St Petersburg.  From the neighbouring station of Kanash (100km from Cheboksary), you can get trains to many cities including Trans-Siberian trains.

Cheboksary Central Bus Station

The central bus station is located just 200m from the railway station. To get there from the railway station you need to go through underpass. The bus station serves regional and interregional routes including Moscow, Ivanovo, Izhevsk, Yoshkar-Ola, Kazan, Kozmodemyansk, Nizhny Novgorod, St Petersburg, Yaroslavl and others.

The suburban bus station is located just next to the railway station and mainly serves regional routes, but also buses to Moscow.

Cheboksary Airport

Cheboksary Airport is located in 10km from the city centre and 7km from the railway station. You can get there by minibus №50, trolleybus №2,№ which is runs along central Ulitsa Karla Marksa and Prospekt Lenina. Get Out from the bus on Airport stop (Аэропорт).

Getting to/from Cheboksary

Chekboksary is located relatively far from Moscow and there are not many trains connecting the two cities.  However a visit to the city can be very easily combined with a trip to Kazan or Yoshkar-Ola.

From Moscow

There are two daily overnight trains from Moscow; one of them is the “Chuvashia” premium train  (№054). 1st, 2nd and 3rd classes are available on the premium train. 1st class is not available on the other train (№142). Both trains leave from Moscow’s Kazansky Railway Station. (Казанский вокзал). It takes about about 13 hours.  Yandex Timetables: Moscow - Cheboksary & Cheboksary - Moscow.

About 20 buses a day depart for Cheboksary from Moscow’s Schyolkovskaya Bus Station and from Cherkizovskaya metro station. Buses leave mainly in the morning and in the evening. They arrive at Cheboksary Central Bus Station and Cheboksary Railway Station. It takes about 12 hours. In addition some buses also leave from Moscow’s Kazansky railway station.

From St Petersburg

A daily 2nd class wagon (№133) leaves St Petersburg from Moskovsky Railway Station for Cheboksary.  It takes 22 hours.  Yandex Timetables:  St Petersburg - Cheboksary & Cheboksary - St Petersburg.

There is also one daily bus from the bus station on Naberezhnaya Obvodnogo Kanala in St Petersburg to Cheboksary. It takes 24 hours.
