Transport in Tver

Tver Railway Station

Tver Railway Station is the one of the oldest in Russia having been built in 1850. It is located at the end of Ulitsa Chaikovskogo (ул. Чайковского) which leads to the city centre. It is about 1.5km from the railway station to Tver's pedestrian street – Ulitsa Tryokhsvyatskaya (ул. Трёхсвятская). You can get to the centre by minibuses (marshrutka) No. 18, No. 28 or No. 5, or buses No. 101, No. 122, No. 225 or No. 102.

Tver is located on the railway line between Moscow and St Petersburg, therefore many long distance trains stop at the station, usually only for a few minutes.

Cities directly connected with Tver by train: Moscow (Leningradsky Railway Station), St Petersburg (Moskovsky Railway Station), Bryansk, Izhevsk, Pskov, Belgorod, Petrozavodsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Chelyabinsk, Veliky Novgorod, Voronezh, Sochi, Volgograd, Murmansk, Torzhok, Kaluga and Kazan.

International Destinations: Tallin, Helsinki and Sevastopol.

Tver Bus Station is located 500m from Tver Railway Station.

Tver River Port

Tver River port is located on the Volga near to the city centre. Many cruise ships travelling between Moscow and St Petersburg and along the Volga make a stop in Tver. The Tver River Port is the most upper river port on the Volga.

Getting to/from Tver

From Moscow

By Train and High-Speed Train:   The Sapsan High-Speed Train connecting Moscow with St Petersburg makes a stop in Tver. It is the most convenient and quickest way to get to Tver from Moscow (1 hours from Moscow), but it is not cheap with tickets starting at RUB 1700 from Moscow.  Other long distance trains stop in Tver, but mostly at inconvenient times.  These trains run from Moscow's Leningradsky Railway Station (Ленинградскийвокзал) - Komsomolskaya metro station (станция метро Комсомольская).

By Suburban Train (Elektrichka):   Suburban trains also run from Moscow's Leningradsky Railway Station (Ленинградскийвокзал) - Komsomolskaya metro station (станция метро Комсомольская), which connect Moscow with Tver.

By Bus:   Getting to Tver by bus is not quick and not confortable so we strongly do not recommend to use buses to get Tver from Moscow.

From St Petersburg

By Train and High-Speed Train:   The Sapsan High-Speed Train connecting Moscow with St Petersburg makes a stop in Tver. It is the most convenient and quickest way to get to Tver from St Petersburg (3 hours from St Petersburg), but it is not cheap with tickets starting at RUB 3000 for second class seats.  Other long distance trains stop in Tver, but mostly at inconvenient times.


Getting around the Tver Region

There are quite a lot of interesting cities in the Tver Region - the most popular are Staritsa, Torzhok, Kashin and Kalyazin.  However the railway lines which run accross the region are not well connected with each other and to get from other cities in the region from Tver travelling by bus is often the only option. Given the relatively large size of the region it is often easier to get to destinations in the Tver Region from Moscow which is connected via train.

To Kalyazin (Калязин)

Although it has a railway station, Kalyazin is not connected via Tver by train.  From Tver Bus Station a few buses leave for Kalyazin which take four hours to get there.

To Kashin (Кашин)

There are around 10 buses a day which leave from Tver Bus Station for Kashin. It takes around 3 hours to get there.

To Staritsa (Старица)

Buses to Staritsa run rather frequently from Tver Bus Station.  It takes around 1½ hours to get there.

To Toropets (Торопец)

Transport links between Tver and Toropets are very poor.  There is one bus a day, except Saturdays, but it takes 6 hours to get there.

To Torzhok (Торжок)

Buses to Torzhok run rather frequently from Tver Bus Station. It takes around 1½ hours to get there.
